Reservists Eligible to be FurloughedPosted on by Angela Rhodes
Many military reservists were mobilised to help support the fight against coronavirus and, as the pandemic is now more under control, will be returning to their employers over the coming months.
Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced on 15th June, 2020 that reservists who return to their day jobs after completing a period of active duty will be able to be furloughed by their employer under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
The new flexible CJRS commencing on 1st July 2020 is restricted to employers who are currently using the scheme and to employees who have previously been furloughed for a minimum of three weeks.
However, as some reservists will not be returning to work until after the cut-off date, they have been exempted from the restriction provided that their employer has previously furloughed employees.
