Olney Rugby 7’s

Posted on by

A good day again at Olney 7s was had by all who attended. The standard of 7s and the quality of competition continues to improve year on year keeping spectators enthralled and engaged all day. That is not to mention the hospitality of the Crispin Rhodes Ltd ‘tented village’ where the beer, wine and food flowed all day. The slight dampener on proceedings when Crispin Rhodes Crusaders were knocked out by last year’s winners in the quarter finals was at the end of a very pleasant entertaining day. The weather stayed fair during the day with a small shower or two but the Gazebos served to keep spirits high. It was unfortunate that one of the Gazebos was demolished before the day started. It was blown clean across the pitch by the wind but Angela Rhodes came to the rescue by finding a tent at short notice. This year saw a change in the Olney 7s set up and Crusaders entered the serious league. Because of this the competition attracted some very good sides and every game therefore was going to be tough. Crispin Rhodes Crusaders were drawn in Pool C against Bedford Queens, DB7s, Olney RFC and Westcombe Park 7s a formidable draw. In that league Crusaders won two games, lost one and drew the other. It all came down to points difference so Crusaders made it into the Quarter Finals to face POD. They were the team that won last year and were always going to be difficult to beat. Crusaders lost the game! The two teams in the final were the only teams to have beaten the Crusaders all day. What a team Crusaders were! Next year I am reliably informed that the kit will be spectacular; put it in your diary for next year. It should be either the first or second Saturday in July.
