COVID-19 Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme Launched

The Government are launching a new online service today (26th May) for companies with up to 250 employees to recover Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) payments they have made to employees who have been affected by COVID-19.

Employers will be able to recover the costs of paying coronavirus-related SSP backdated to periods of sickness starting on or after 13th March, 2020. It will be necessary to keep all records of SSP payments that are to be claimed.

The repayment will cover up to two weeks of SSP paid to an employee if they either:
  • have coronavirus
  • are self-isolating and unable to work from home or
  • are shielding because they’ve been advised that they are at high risk themselves.
For the period 13th March 2020 to 5th April 2020, the rate of SSP was £94.25 per week, increasing from 6th April 2020 to £95.85 per week.
