Company Vaccination ProgrammePosted on by Angela Rhodes
We have been asked whether a Company is obliged to offer flu vaccinations to their employees.
The simple answer to this is no.
However, research carried out by the International Longevity Centre UK found that the flu vaccine in England had helped to prevent up to 626,000 cases of flu each year.
Some employees will be eligible to receive the flu vaccine free of charge on the NHS either through a pharmacist or their GP. These include employees over the age of 65, employees with caring responsibilities for an elderly relative, pregnant women and employees with specific underlying medical conditions.
For those not eligible, the cost is usually between £12 and £15.
If you decide to offer this to your staff, you may be able to organise this via a local pharmacy or a GP or through an occupational health provider and if there are sufficient numbers, they may well be prepared to run a clinic on site.
Please be aware that just because you think it’s a good idea to have all your employees vaccinated to avoid future sickness absence from the business, they may not and you cannot insist that they have one.
