Attracting and retaining older workers

The Government have recently called for employers to proactively attract older workers and to encourage them to stay in employment for longer and has launched its new “Fuller Working Lives” framework to provide employers and employee with additional support.

So what are the facts? The UK population is increasing in age and the number of people who are working past retirement age has almost doubled in the last 20 years and by 2020 it is anticipated that more than one-third of workers will be over the age of 50. They can be a valuable asset to the business with years of training, experience, skills and knowledge.

Older workers will potentially prefer different benefits from much younger workers. For example, flexibility and support if they are ill could be very important to the older worker.
