Question 2 Do I have to give holiday entitlement on public holidays? Answer
There are currently 8 permanent bank and public holidays in Great Britain. These dates are available via the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform's website through to 2011.
At the moment, the current statutory minimum holiday entitlement an employee must receive is 24 days, inclusive of bank holidays. However, the Government are increasing this from 24 days to 28 days from 1st April, 2009 - inclusive of bank holidays.
Provided that you give your employees the minimum number of holidays in a year, they do not necessarily have to be taken on bank holidays.
