Q: We have an employee who is still in their probationary period but need to take up to ten days off for an operation. Surely we don’t have to pay them do we?
A: Check your terms and conditions of employment in relation to any Company Sick Pay and whether or not an employee who is still within their probationary period is eligible. Whether they are entitled to company sick pay or not, they will probably be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
