Q: When will fathers be able to take additional paternity leave? A:Additional Paternity Leave can only be taken when the mother of the child has returned to work as it is not possible for a mother and father to take maternity leave and additional paternity leave at the same time. The earliest that additional paternity leave can staff is when the baby is 20 weeks old or has been with its adoptive parents for 20 weeks. The leave must be taken in complete weeks and must be taken as one continuous period. Fathers may taken a minimum period of leave of two consecutive weeks and a maximum of 26 weeks.
