This month we’ve received news that some important decisions have been made about planned upcoming employment legislation changes. Right to Request Time to Train Since 6th April, 2010, employers in England, Scotland and Wales with 250 or more employees have had to seriously consider an employee’s formal request for time away from their core duties to undertake training. This right was to be extended to employees of all sized companies from 6th April, 2011. However, the Government has recently announced that this right will not now be extended and will instead be “delayed” and “subject to further scrutiny”. Right to Request Flexible Working for Parents of 17 year olds The Government is to repeal the Flexible Working (Eligibility, Complaints and Remedies) (Amendment) Regulations 2010 that were due to come into force on 6 April 2011 extending the right to request flexible working to the parents of 17 year olds. The right to request flexible working will therefore continue to be available only to parents of children aged under 17 and disabled children under 18, and carers of certain adults.
