Disclosure and Barring Service to Launch Update Service
Posted on by Angela Rhodes
The Disclosure ad Barring Service (DBS) is to launch a new service on 17th June, 2013, called the Update Service. The idea is that it will put individuals in greater control of their own personal information, allow DBS certificates to be reused when applying for similar jobs and hopefully reduce some of the red tape. It will save individuals time and money and hopefully improve safeguarding overall. There is an annual fee of £13 for the update service which will enable employees to take their DBS certificate with them from role to role within the same workforce. Millions of volunteers and employees will no longer have to apply for individual criminal record checks each time they move to a different job. An employer, once given authority by the employee, will be able to go on line and carry out a free, instantaneous check to find out if the information contained on the DBS certificate is current and up to date.
